We find, however, asking particular saints such as Mary, Queen of Heaven and earth, to also be of particular difference as she was and is said to be the Co-Mediatrix of our salvation which has not yet been made doctrine. What that means is that Our Lady is of significant elevation in holiness as she was purposed to labor alongside Christ for the salvation of souls. Knowing this, we also recognize the great importance of devot persistence in prayer for the desire to obtain signal graces from God.
This is why the novena is an incredible and powerful prayer and spiritual exercise. According to the Catholic Encyclopedia,. Jerome, inEzech. So understanding that a novena is a prayer of fasting and of mourning for intercession over a period of nine days, one can begin to see the spiritual benefit of this practice come to light.
Keep in mind, any holy soul, not just Jesus and Mary, whether in Purgatory or in Heaven may be fit to dedicate a novena to, for the purpose of sanctification and fulfillment of a worthy petition. But above all, the greatest among all novenas are those that are dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
In your nine days of petition, make sure to focus on specific meditations listed for these devotions and be sure to rid yourself of all distractions and focus deeply on the words you are praying as though you were reciting them out of a profound love found only in a marriage vow. Reverently consider who it is that you are speaking with and lend all your attention so as to be respectful.
Remember, the more you put into it the more you get out of it. The greater the love and faith the greater reward. And always remember,. Take it dear Heart of Jesus and place it within your own broken heart where your Father sees it. Then in His merciful eyes it will become your favor not mine. Heavenly Father, most gracious and loving God, I pray to you that you abundantly bless my family and me.
I know that you recognize, that a family is more than just a mother, father, sister, brother, husband and wife, but all who believe and trust in you. I was specifically looking for a novena to help with anger. I saw none mentioning anger, but saw one for peace. With the advent of liturgical renewal and the increased participation of the congregation at Mass, perhaps this is why novenas fell by the wayside. Also, some people, I think, have hurt the cause of novenas because of superstition.
In every parish I have been assigned, I have found copies of a St. Jude novena, which basically states that if a person goes to Church for nine days and leaves a copy of the novena to St. So much for God's will. What is really sad these days is that the person simply Xeroxes the letter; one would think they could at least hand-write it. Worse yet, I usually have to pick up these letters, which are left all over the Church. Nevertheless, novenas still hold a legitimate place in our Catholic spirituality.
The Enchiridion of Indulgences notes, "A partial indulgence is granted to the faithful, who devoutly take part in the pious exercise of a public novena before the feast of Christmas or Pentecost or the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
